| Summary: | The Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou is a band like no other. For more than 42 years, and with at least 500 records to their credit, they have become known as the Almighty Force (Tout-Puissant), spreading their music all over the world. Here is a collective that was formed after the independence of Benin, one that has travelled through West Africa, connecting with its history. Its members had the chance to play alongside Fela Kuti, Manu Dibango, Miriam Makeba and many others, but they were unknown before 2007 outside of the African continent. It was a French journalist who made their dream come true, and two years later they began conquering international stages. Extensive combined travels have meant that the group now reflects a combination of different genres: Afrobeat, soukous, voodoo rhythms, Congolese rumba, Ghanaian high-life ... they are still on the move, border crossing and touring regularly. This 2018 concert at the Moods Club is proof of their versatility and generosity. It is a rare kind of groove and a distorted sound that becomes really fast addictive. --Anaïs Christidis Guillemard.
