| Summary: | This 1976 film introduces the first four pioneers of art therapy to be honored by the American Art Therapy Assocaition (AATA) with the designation of Honorary Life Member (HLM), all acknowledged as founders of the discipline in the U.S. Following an interview with Margaret Naumburg, whose writings defined the field, three art assessments are demonstrated with commentaries by the therapists: Elinor Ulman, educator and publisher of the first journal, working with two adolescents; Hanna Kwiatkowska conducting her Family Art Evaluation; and Edith Kramer, seminal theorist and practitioner, meeting with a young boy for an evaluation session. There is also a brief introduction to the film, as well as some charming anecdotes of experiences with the pioneers while Making the Film. |
