Description
Summary:Appearing in the wake of the nu jazz movement alongside Norwegians Nils Petter Molvær or Bugge Wesseltoft, Erik Truffaz quickly established himself, whether in contact with the electronic drum and bass current (The Dawn), sophisticated arrangements (The Walk Of The Giant Turtle) or through various musical journeys (the Paris, Benares and Mexico trilogy). Present here as part of the Jazz à Ramatuelle festival, the French trumpeter reviews some past compositions such as El Tiempo De La Revolución, or the funky Istanbul, before offering titles from his latest album, the impeccable Lune Rouge. Surrounded by an ensemble of accomplices including Marcello Giuliani on bass, Tao Ehrlich on drums, and Benoît Corboz on keyboards, the former resident of the Blue Note label finds, on the Côte d'Azur stage, a constant balance. The interpretation of Lost In Bogota reveals a striking photogenic quality; the version of The Dawn reaches stratospheric peaks; and the cover of My Favorite Things confirms the timeless character of Broadway standards. Recommended! Vincent Caffiaux.
