Summary:This program takes us to three world famous sites that surround Las Vegas, Nevada. First to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area to explore Hoover Dam, the highest concrete arch dam in the United States; it was built between 1931 and 1936 on the Colorado River at the Arizona/Nevada border. Lake Mead, the largest man-made reservoir in the country, was named after Dr. Elwood Mead, who was the U.S. Reclamation Commissioner when the dam and lake were built. Next we hike through the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area; it is filled with numerous natural wonders, including geological thrust faults, sandstone quarries, desert washes and wooded canyons.
