Description
Summary:This quaint town, nestled in the lush wine country within the province of Ontario, makes time stand still. The ten-day wine festival is the cultural event of the year, and ice wine is the centerpiece of the festival. This sweet dessert wine is made from frozen grapes and some call it "the golden nectar of the gods." Another annual event is the George Bernard Shaw Festival held each fall to honor the famed Irish playwright and author. The town comes alive as Shaw's plays are presented in an atmosphere of long-ago gentility and grace, where afternoon tea is an everyday event. The countryside around the town offers magnificent views of the Niagara River, and a bike tour along the Niagara River Trail is a must. Another side trip can be a winery's cooking school, where cooking tips and proper wines to accompany food are offered. Back in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a horse-drawn carriage takes us on a stroll through the historic district. To end our visit in this wonderful town, we pamper ourselves at a local spa, where a soothing massage and facial will revitalize any weary traveler.
