Summary:In 2004 and 2012 a so-called Transit of Venus occurred, when planet Venus passed across the disk of the Sun as seen from the Earth. Transits of Venus occur approximately every 100 years, in pairs separated by 8 year. In the 18th and 19th century Transits of Venus inspired global expeditions to observe the event. These observations lead to the first accurate determine the distance from the Earth to the Sun and thus dimension of the Solar System. The next transit pair will occur in 2117 and 2125. In 2012 another global science project, the Venus Twilight Experiment (VTE), was set up with the goal to study the atmosphere of Venus by means of the Transit. Scientists from all over the planet participated in this experiment, led by the Paris-Meudon and Côte d'Azur Observatories from France. In this film we follow the scientists on their quest and tell once in a life time science story.
