| Summary: | Bermuda is not just one island; it's a group of British islands, which is nestled in the warm Atlantic Ocean waters 580 miles east of the North Carolina coastline. Its capital is Hamilton, which in not a large city, being only six square miles; however, it carries on a merchant tradition, which began with sailing ships that stopped here from around the world long ago, and today it is a popular destination stop for shoppers. History too abounds here as we tour the House of Parliament, the Cabinet House, City Hall, the Perot Post Office and the Holy Trinity Church. Next we visit St. Georges, the original capital for over 200 years. Founded in 1612 by Sir George Somers and other survivors after their ship, the Sea Venture, wrecked on the island, this city's historical significance is still seen today in its living history programs demonstrated throughout the town by costumed interpreters such as the Town Crier. It is believed that Somers' and his crew's adventures as castaways on Bermuda may have inspired Shakespeare to write The Tempest. In St. George's Harbor we see a popular attraction, a replica of the Deliverance, the ship built by Somers' shipwrecked crew to take them to the Jamestown colony in Virginia. Bermuda is a vacationer's paradise, so if you tire of shopping and historical tours, there's always golfing, with challenging courses like the Port Royal Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and the Riddles Bay Golf and Country Club.
