Description
Summary:16 year-old Melissa created 'Haul Ups', crutches that help injured people move around more easily through a hydraulic system built into the crutch. Melissa is sick of using crutches that don't help her get up off the ground. For those unlucky enough to need them how cool would it be to have electronic crutches that lengthen or shorten at the push of a button! Haul Ups are funky crutches that even fold up for easy storage on buses and cars. Athlete William Pike who lost his leg in a Mt. Ruapehu eruption offers to complete the Goober Challenge: to get off the ground and climb the Auckland Skytower by foot! Despite William recent recovery from losing a leg to a mountainous eruption, he now has another mountain to climb on one leg!The 'Haul-Ups' design even has the attention of leading crutch manufacturers and if developed further could change the lives of the disabled for good.
