Description
Summary:Greenhill Primary School is like any other primary school yet the learning of languages has been embedded within the school's ethos. All pupils, from nursery age to year 6, are shown the wealth of cultures that language learning unlocks. This draws in part on the skills and interests of the teaching staff and fits into classroom life with comparative ease. Foreign language assistants from overseas add another dimension and continue links with the school even after they return home. The rationale behind teaching young children a variety of languages (including French, German, Italian and Spanish) is that they are more susceptible to language learning at this age. Languages are taught in a variety of ways using innovative ideas and modern technology to engage pupils' attention and promote a lasting enthusiasm for modern foreign languages.
