Description
Summary:Arctic flyer joins Gustavus McLeod on his record-breaking journey to be the first person to reach the North Pole in an open-cockpit plane. Sponsored in part by National Geographic Society, McLeod flies a 1939 Boeing Stearman, a former crop duster, 3,500 miles to the geographic North Pole. Over twelve grueling days, McLeod journeys northward from Maryland. He encounters mechanical problems and unusually frigid temperatures and suffers frostbitten fingers. This is more than just an adventure for McLeod, it is a personal odyssey for him.
