Description
Summary:In surveys amongst staff at Huntington school in York the biggest cause of stress was homework. However, since the head teacher's recent overhaul of the homework policy and the introduction of a new system combining sanctions for non-completion and support for pupils homework, completion rates have been transformed and teacher stress reduced. The new system is based on strictly enforcing a clear set of rules. For example, if a pupil fails to complete homework more than 4 times within a two-week period, a letter of warning is sent home. If this behaviour continues, the pupil faces 2 weeks of sanctions. This programme looks at how this approach works and what parents and pupils think of it.
