Description
Summary:Lesley Garrett takes a trip to New York to bring a little Christmas magic to a city that has recently faced the most traumatic period in its history. New York has long been the capital of Christmas, with kitsch toys and decorations, ice skating at the Rockefeller Center and a mad rush around FAO Schwarz for the biggest and best toys. But after September 11, the mood has been more sombre. Now the people of the Big Apple are planning to show their undaunted spirit with a really capital Christmas. The music programme combines a new take on traditional festive fare alongside American music and guests, reflecting the enduring optimism of that great city. The music ranges from Bernstein to Handel, and from Duke Ellington to Billy Joel, not forgetting seasonal carols as Lesley wanders the wide sidewalks of the city, asking New Yorkers for their favourite Christmas song and joining in many spirited renditions.
