| Summary: | <P>Dr. Friedrich von Kammacher (Olaf Fønss), a young physician, is devastated after his wife develops a brain disorder and is institutionalized. Von Kammacher travels to Berlin, where he meets a young dancer named Ingigerd (Ida Orloff). He decides to follow her to America, and buys a first ticket on the same liner as Ingigered and her boyfriend, the SS Roland. Halfway across the sea the Roland strikes an unseen object which causes massive flooding and dooms the ship. Friedrich and Ingigered survive, but her boyfriend and father do not. The tragedy eventually leads to the separation of Friedrich and Ingigered once they arrive in America, but his journey through love and death in the new country has only begun.</p> <p>Originally released by the Nordisk Film company, ATLANTIS is a masterpiece of the Danish silent cinema that helped usher a new era in modern filmmaking. This restored, high-definition version features a score by Robert Israel.</p> |
