| Summary: | Minimalist in style, Sunday Seoul is inspired by the bizarre stories that came to light during the circulation of a tabloid magazine -- Sunday Seoul -- that was published in Korea until it ceased to be run in the 1980s. In typical tabloid fashion, the film voyeuristically peeks into the darkest corners of people's lives. For example, a middle-aged college professor whose wife has recently died makes a desperate attempt to find an ex-student with whom he had a secret affair. A shy high school student finds himself falling in love with a call girl who is having an affair with a married policeman she met when she was caught in a sting operation. And a lonely housewife seeks more from life by befriending a free-spirited though unpopular woman at the community swimming pool. Sunday Seoul also contemplates the negative aspects of the Internet and the way in which it stymies meaningful human connection. |
