Akbar promoted religious tolerance and combined Hindu and Islamic art and architecture styles; Shah Jahan memorialized his wife Mumtaz in the Taj Mahal; and Aurangzeb imposed strict Islamic rule. Finally, British imperialism increased tensions between Muslims and Hindus, leading to violence and division.
