Yet little is known for certain about the causes of depression, and although some treatments do alleviate the symptoms, nobody is sure how they work. Embryologist and author Professor Lewis Wolpert, himself a victim of depression, sets out to discover what we know and what we need to find out about this scourge of modern society.
