| Summary: | We visit Broadmead Infants School over the course of a week to see the journeys children are making, and what's helping them learn. With a very mixed intake, many of whom have little experience of books, the teachers emphasise guided speaking and listening from Reception onwards in an effort to get children organising and vocalising their thoughts. Role play, freeze-framing and dramatising stories and characters from real books all prepare children for ambitious writing. Headteacher Alex Lundie explains her sense that children coming in with lower levels of experience deserve to have high expectations made of them, so long as the right support is in place. |
