| Summary: | Gilroy Brown and Dr Lorna Cork from the School Effectiveness Division, Birmingham, Chris Welford, Headteacher at Welford Primary in Handsworth, and Henroy Green from the National Black Boys Can Association, come together to discuss why it is that some black boys are under-achieving at school. Is it the fault of the education system? The fault of the parents? Is it a combination of factors? Or is it simply the fault of the boys themselves? As well as looking at why the problem exists, our panellists offer their own opinions on what needs to be done to ensure that these boys are given the same chances as everyone else to fulfill their true potential whilst at school, so that by the time they are at school-leaving age they are equipped with the right tools and with the self-esteem to succeed in their adult lives. |
