Description
Summary:Are people right to fear the spread of genetically modified crops? This powerful documentary tells the story of one farmer who takes a stand against the massive multinational Monsanto. THE BATTLE: Representatives from the multinational company Monsanto visit Canadian farmer Percy Schmeiser and demand he surrender his canola crops. Percy refuses and an epic legal battle begins. BENEFITS & FEARS: Modifying canola's genes makes the plant resistant to specific weed killers and, according to the makers, generally improves yield. But Percy's campaign highlights popular fears concerning GM crops and food with GM products in. Are GM companies employing "terminator technology"? INTIMIDATION: Schmeiser accuses Monsanto of intimidating tactics, employing private detectives to observe his every footstep. Finally, the case goes to Canada's supreme court. Percy argues the verdict raises more questions than it answers - including the biggest of all - "who owns life?"
