| Summary: | There are 1100 students at Chestnut Grove Secondary and over 50 feeder primary schools. Katherine Cumberbatch came up with the idea of creating an interactive website to improve the transition. Chestnut Grove has run summer schools in the past, usually 30 or 40 students. But the website has the potential of helping every student coming to Chestnut Grove. There are games, films of current students talking about life in school, and a virtual tour of the building. There is also a maths questionnaire, which is sent back directly to the maths teacher to use in the design of first scheme of work when the students start in September. We launched the site in June 2004, and the immediate benefit we noticed was students were coming into Year 7 with folders full of work desperate to give them to their teachers. says Katherine Cumberbatch, assistant headteacher. |
