Description
Summary:"Two of the most successful and internationally renowned winners of the prestigious Cardiff Singer of the World competition return to the Welsh capital for a spectacular gala concert. Karita Mattila won the first competition in 1983 - in fact she was the first singer to sing in the very first round. In 1989, Dmitri Hvorostovsky won one of the most hotly contested competitions, which became known as the battle of the baritones (a young Bryn Terfel won the lieder prize that year). This concert is a celebration of the competition, with arias and duets from these sensational performers. Accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conducted by Richard Hickox, the repertoire includes extracts from Dvorak's Rusalka, Verdi's Rigoletto and Aida, and works by Puccini, Bellini, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky and Mozart."--Alexander Street, resource website.
