| Summary: | Sociologist and broadcaster Professor Laurie Taylor draws on personal experience to transfer the art of public speaking and communication skills to a Key Stage 4 class at a boy's secondary school in London. The pupils, from John Kelly Boys Technology College in Brent, are given the task of speaking on a given subject for a minute without stopping, and find it's much harder than they thought. They re also given the chance to try a bit of stand-up comedy. The boys leave the lesson with a new respect for the value of talking to each other rather than sitting and watching television. |
