Description
Abstract:Documentary following Joanna Lumley as she retraces the steps of her grandfather to Bhutan, the last of the Buddhist kingdoms untouched by western technology. In 1931, Colonel Weir, bestowed on the King of Bhutan the Knight Commander of the Indian empire. Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, has always been associated with mystery. Land-locked in the Eastern Himalayas by its powerful neighbours India and Tibet, Bhutan is about the same size as Switzerland but with a population of less than one million. Tourism has been stringently controlled, television banned and visiting film crews almost totally excluded. Joanna Lumley, star of Absolutely Fabulous and Girl Friday, returns to her past as she retraces her grandfather's steps. Through her eyes, we explore a world which challenges accepted ideas of wealth, progress, happiness and quality of life.
