| Summary: | An 'army' of teenage girls are transforming heath care in rural Africa. We follow teenage health worker Ajebush in Ethiopia, to find out what difference she is making to the community and how her own life has changed. Four times a month, 18 year-old Ajebush starts her day with a two-hour walk from the village of Timbicho in southern Ethiopia to pick up her supply of vaccines. She then walks two hours back to the village health post where she injects the local babies. Three days a month she walks on for a further 30 minutes to an even more remote community where the mothers are waiting in the shade of a big tree to have their young children immunized as well. Before the health post was established at Timbicho, and before Ajebush started her work, the nearest medical help was at least two hours away. |
