Description
Abstract:Wolpe interviews a volunteer, Tom, who has problems sleeping, is depressed, has nightmares, experiences mood swings and fits of anger. These problems are related to a traumatic event. As a police officer he had been called to a domestic violence case and finds himself controlled by a man who is pointing a gun at him. Tom shot and killed the man. Later it became evident that the man's gun had not been loaded and that he was mentally ill. Following a thorough interview, Wolpe uses eye movement and systematic desensitization to diminish the established fear hierarchy. The demonstration is followed by questions.
