Description
Summary:"Between 2016 and 2019, the photographer Christoph Irrgang, commissioned by the Museum Barberini in Potsdam, sought out the places were Monet, Renoir, and other Impressionists had painted. From the painters' perspectives, he researched and photographed the spots where numerous works were created. The juxtaposition of his present-day photographs with the paintings shows not only the effects of industrialization, modernization, and urban development over the past 150 years but also an astonishing continuity. The art historian Miriam Leimer has interpreted the thirty-three pairs of pictures and also spoke with Christoph Irrgang about his experiences during this project. Illustrated with paintings from the Hasso Plattner Collection by Eugène Boudin, Gustave Caillebotte, Albert Dubois-Pillet, Henri Le Sidaner, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Signac, and Alfred Sisley." -- Page [4] of cover.
