"The first Aldine edition of Dante's Commedia, which is also the first edition of this compelling classic in pocket format. Bibliographically the edition is important as the first octavo Aldine to make use of Aldus's famous anchor and dolphin printer's device -- some copies also exist without the device, which was not yet ready when the book first went to press. The text of this edition -- the first published in the sixteenth century -- enjoyed an unparalleled authority for over three centuries, for it served as the basis for nearly all subsequent editions, including the influential text published by the Accademia della Crusca in 1595"--E.K. Schreiber Rare Books June 2015 List, no. 9.
