Bourgelat Fondateur des Écoles Vétérinaires;" the reverse has the school name (Alfort, Toulouse, or Lyon) partially encircling a laurel wreath with the awardee name and details in the center; Medal 6 in original case; various dates noted on each medal. Medals 7-8: France; 6.5 cm bronze round cast by O. Roly with right-facing low-relief bust of Henri-Marie Bouley partially encircled by text "Henri Bouley Président de l'Académie des Sciences 1884-1885;" the reverse upper third has figure of young female with sheep with "Arte Nova Pastor Pecorum Contaigia Vincit" in arc with "Gratum Opus Agricolis" in smaller font under motto; the lower two thirds has panel for awardee in upper center with banner "Souvenir du 26" below which is "Inspecteur General Des Écoles Vétérinaires; Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur; Professor au Musuem; Ses Élèves Ses Confreres Ses Amis." Medals 9-10: France; 5.7 x 7 cm bronze upright rectangle cast by Paul Richer with right-facing low-relief bust of J.B.A. Chaveau; the reverse has motto "Abdita Naturae Scruatus Mene Vigenti" at foot and a low-relief of Chaveau and two assistants conducting a physiological experiment on a standing horse with leads attached that produce readings on a drum; undated, possibly 1903. Medal 11: France; 6.5 x 5.4 cm bronze horizontal rectangle cast by Paul Richer with right-facing low-relief bust of S. Arloing with background of the veterinary school at Lyon with heading "Directeur de l'École Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon, Professeur a la Faculté de Médecine, Correspondant de l'Institut" and "1846 S. Arloing 1911" at foot; the reverse has motto "Corporibus Coecis Igitur Natura Gerit Res." at base of scene of three assistants and Arloing injecting a cow with herd in background; issued to commemorate his retirement. Medal 12: France; 7 cm round bronze cast by J. Darras in 1934 with right-facing low-relief bust partially encircled by "Professeur Victor Even"; the reverse has "Académie Vétérinaire de France" around the upper half perimeter with the remainder of text "Professeur -fondateur de l'Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire de Santa Catalina Republique Argentine, Directeur des Haras de la Provinces Buenos-Ayres; Chef de la Mission Française de Remonte Amérique du Sud 1914" Medal 13: France; 7 cm round bronze cast by J. Harisch with right-facing low-relief bust encircled by "Franciscus I Austriae Imperator"; the reverse has "Mvnificentia Avgvsti" arced above low-relief buildings with four horizontal lines of text "Institvtvm | Veterinarivm | Fvnd Vind | MDCCCXXIII"; commemorating the founding of the veterinary school in Vienna. Medal 17: Romania; 8 cm round silver bronze cast by Andre Lavrillier with left-facing low-relief bust with text in arc to left "Generalvul Doctor" and right "Carol Davila"; the reverse has central figure of medicine as a gowned female holding a caduceus in her right hand and a naked male child crouching at her left, against a background of a city; arced above the figure "1828 Centenarvl Davila 1928", horizontal text below "Știnta și Vmanitate 1870 - 1877"; under the city to the left of the center figure are seven lines of text "Medicina, Farmacie, Chime, Servicivl, Sanitar, Militar, și Civil" and to the right are six lines of text "Scoala Veterinara, Orfelinate, și Aailua, Elena, Doamna"; commemorating the centenary of Davila's birth. |
