Summary:The first editions of three works published separately but simultaneously on the Ethiopian language. Composed by the German linguist Hiod Ludolf, his work essentially opened to the European world the cultural and linguistic world of ancient Ethiopia using their original texts. The first work is an Ethiopian-Latin lexicon-dictionary, the second work covers grammar, and the third work includes extracts from ancient Ethiopian manuscripts, such a Confession of Faith and the Liturgy of St. Dioscorus of Alexandria.
