Description
Abstract:"Help Your Students Chart Their Course in STEM Professions. Providing students with guidance on career and professional development is an essential responsibility of colleges and universities. Faculty remain the primary source of discipline-specific advice at most institutions, and yet few faculty have received formal training on mentoring or professional development. Identifying this need, a group of Cottrell Scholars launched the program COMPASS: Career and Occupational Mentoring for the Professional Advancement of Science Students. This book serves as a resource for institutions and faculty looking to improve career and professional mentoring. Following an introductory chapter on the COMPASS program and a primer on developing administrative action plans for career programming, the remaining chapters detail the motivations, activities, and outcomes of successful career development programs. Information is provided for faculty to use in starting their own programs for helping students to find their way."-- Provided by publisher.
