Description
Summary:During 2021, productivity at XYZ Semiconductor dropped due to high employee attrition. Competitive advantages the company once held eroded, and revenue dropped. Consultant Anjali Karthikey has been hired to identify the attrition drivers and analyze how the company's HR policies influenced them. Anjali Karthikey, a human capital strategist with a leading consultancy, was hired by XYZ Semiconductor, an Indian subsidiary of a U.S. semiconductor manufacturing company, to manage its talent pool for a planned expansion that will help the company become a leader in semiconductor manufacturing by 2024. Her first step will be to dispel unfounded assumptions made by the various stakeholders about what is causing the 15% employee turnover rate. She plans to adopt a data-driven approach to diagnosing the attrition drivers. Specifically, she will need to find a metric that connects performance and attrition, develop likely hypotheses, collect requisite data, and make insightful recommendations to the company's management. Note: This case documents a real-life analytics project in a semiconductor company. The name XYZ Semiconductor India is used to disguise the identity of the original company. Practical insights on how the problems encountered during the project were solved have been provided in the Teaching Notes.
