Description
Summary:California-based Y Combinator Inc. (Y Combinator) is an American start-up accelerator led by Geoff Ralston. Y Combinator offers seed funding and training to start-up companies (start-ups) with services ranging from advice on the start-up name to business model changes. Successful start-ups such as Instacart, DoorDash, and Airbnb have participated in Y Combinator programs. The company has been referred to as the "Harvard of startups accelerators." Y Combinator taught start-up founders skills including how to market their product, refine the business model, achieve product or market fit, and scale the start-up into a high growth business. Y Combinator's batch size has ranged from 180 to 200 start-ups. In December 2021, Ralston was planning to increase the batch size to 1,000 start-ups per batch to target more start-ups globally. Competition in the accelerator space was also growing. With these plans to increase batch size, there were concerns as to whether the quality of Y Combinator's program and training would suffer. Should Ralston increase Y Combinator's batch size? Can he do this without impacting the quality? What growth strategies can he formulate for Y Combinator?
