| Summary: | On January 23, 2020, Singapore (see Appendix 1) reported its first case of the highly infectious COVID-19 virus and implemented lockdown from April 7 to May 4. The lockdown was extended to June 1 due to untraced transmission in the community. No one could have predicted the damage that this eventually caused to the restaurant industry in Singapore, because the virus was unlike any that had been witnessed before. Various restaurants across the country were forced to shut down because the restrictions resulted in significantly lower sales. SaladStop!--a chain of nutrient-conscious, quick-service restaurants--thus faced similar risks. To remain profitable and avoid closures, SaladStop! urgently needed to explore various strategic options available and to rethink how to best position itself for the future. |
