Summary:	Helen Berham and her two adult sons, Reece and Ben, were shocked to learn that Helen's ex-husband and the boys' father, Scholastic family business publishing magnate M. Richard (Dick) Robinson Jr., gave controlling interest in the company to Iole Lucchese, his former girlfriend and long-term company executive, rather than to his sons. Robinson, who died unexpectedly in June 2021, and who was with Berham and Reece on Martha's Vineyard, had no succession plan. This case asks students to think critically about why a family business CEO would not prepare a succession plan and, further, why he would not include his children in his will, thereby passing his business to a person outside of the family.
