Description
Summary:Paula is a Black senior manager at SERVEMORE, which is a Fortune 500 financial services corporation. By all accounts, she is an effective leader who was destined to ascend to the top management team (TMT) ranks in the next few years. Paula is an undergraduate business manager from a Historically Black College and University, and she graduated with honors from an MBA program at a top Ivy League school known for its graduates becoming top corporate leaders. Paula has more management tenure and major successes than her peers. It is well-known that Paula was hand-picked by Mildred, a respected TMT member, to be groomed to ascend to the top management team (TMT) within the next three years. However, instead of waiting until she secured a TMT position, Paula acts now to force a new diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy to hire, retain, and promote more women and minorities into the top management ranks at SERVEMORE. Paula aims to address two common corporate issues - the lack of diversity for women and minorities in top management and salary wage gaps for women and minorities. Paula shakes up the status quo, which does not sit well with some members of the top management team. While the unanimous sentiment is that a change is needed, Paula's approach and mandated timeline for implementation caused a ruckus. Next week, Paula, along with staff from the human resource (HR) department, are scheduled to present the new strategy and policy change to members of the top management team. Approval is needed from the TMT this month, so implementation can occur for this year's upcoming college recruitment schedule. Paula fears several members of the TMT will focus on her tactics and not the benefits of implementing effective policy to address DEI issues at SERVEMORE. Paula believes her actions are aligned with SERVEMORE's DEI mission and will make SERVEMORE a corporate leader to emulate. Paula does not want to delay implementation until next year.
