Description
Summary:Home Furnishings is a fictional U.K.-based household textiles and soft furnishings retailer, with 70 large stores, mainly located in retail parks supplied by two regional distribution centres. In recent months, the company has been struggling to service its stores using its current distribution arrangements. These difficulties are due to the impact of the U.K.-wide shortage of heavy goods vehicle drivers, which has been exacerbated by Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. During a particularly difficult week for the Home Furnishings distribution operation--when regular store delivery schedules were reviewed and reprioritized daily--the head of distribution calls an emergency meeting to discuss the situation. One of the operations managers proposes that deliveries be made in collaboration with other companies, which might help them meet their delivery commitments. Students will be asked to consider how the distribution team can make this happen.
