Description
Summary:The case follows Nokia Oyj (Nokia), one of the leading global communications companies in Finland, as it sets out its intention to succeed in 5G technology. In August 2020, Nokia appointed Pekka Lundmark as its CEO. Ex-CEO of Nokia, Rajiv Suri, missed making a mark in the 5G telecom spectrum. Consequently, some of Nokia's key clients, such as Vodafone, gave 5G contracts to its competitors, such as Ericsson Inc (Ericsson). In December 2020, Lundmark laid the turnaround plan for Nokia, where he restructured Nokia's divisions to have a more focused approach, where multiple divisions such as Nokia Networks and software divisions had individual targets of becoming a leader in their respective sectors. However, Ericsson, on the contrary, moved towards the strategy of the end-to-end network solution. Was Lundmark a better-suited CEO for Nokia's 5G transformation than Suri? Could his turnaround strategy reap benefits for Nokia?
