Description
Summary:Global Eats is an international food festival held every year in a small town in Wales, UK. The festival is run by a small volunteer organisation that works with a limited budget. The festival usually aims to promote the diverse food and beverage suppliers in the town and surrounding areas as well as cover its costs each year. This festival draws visitors from surrounding towns along with international visitors. Thus, there is a significant inflow of people to the town during the five days of the festival. The surge in numbers and activities can be disruptive for local residents, as the festival takes place in the town square and park, which are the central and only public space in the town. This case study encourages students to analyse the different experiences of various segments of host communities when assessing and managing the impacts of an international event on that community. The case study also encourages students to develop strategies that would help the event organisers mitigate the negative impacts and leverage the positive impacts of their event.
