Description
Summary:Dhillon Singh wanted the work, but he was not sure of the best path forward. As an executive coach with many years of experience, he had recently been offered an opportunity to work with the new CEO of Rogers Communications. As the largest telecommunications company in Canada, providing coaching services to the CEO was a significant opportunity for Dhillon. However, it was also a complex undertaking as the new CEO had been appointed after a recent highly public power play at both the C-suite and board levels. Although Tony Staffieri was ultimately successful in becoming the new CEO, the public court process and media coverage had made many Canadians and Rogers employees very aware of the events that led to Tony's promotion. In addition, early in his role as CEO, Rogers experienced two significant challenges: the first pertained to securing Competition Bureau approval for the acquisition of Shaw Communications and the second related to a massive internet and cellular service failure across Canada. Students will be asked to identify the key leadership issues that Tony will be facing as CEO in the context of prominent leadership theories, and to provide suggestions for Dhillon to coach Tony effectively.
