Description
Summary:Dr. Banerjee was the promoter-director of Lincoln Education Private Ltd. (LEPL), an organization that operated in Kolkata, India. LEPL was involved in the back-office operations of Lincoln University College, Malaysia. LEPL needed stable staffing for smooth operations; however, it had faced employee attrition for many years. To stop the attrition, LEPL organized and sponsored many skills and knowledge development training programs with professional training providers from Kolkata and Lincoln University College, Malaysia. It was anticipated that the employees attending those programs would feel motivated to perform better and remain longer in the organization. However, those goals were not met, and LEPL experienced a 28% employee attrition in FY1 2020-21 and 25% in FY 2021-22. The idea of life careerism, namely, a complementary relationship between work and life, was considered a possible motivator for the LEPL's Millennial Generation workforce. However, instilling a culture of life careerism was a time-consuming process and was not going to provide any immediate benefit to the organization. Dr. Banerjee encouraged suggestions from team members with potentially better options, but none were forthcoming. Hence, he had to decide between continuing with the existing methods of employee retention or introducing the concepts of life careerism.
