According to accounting guidelines issued by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, there are two alternative methods of accounting for oil exploring activities till 31st March, 2016 in India. These are Successful Efforts Method and Full Cost Method of accounting. The case helps the students in understanding the accounting for oil exploring activities under these two methods, impact of these methods on financial statements and ratio analysis of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited, and merits and demerits of these two methods. |
