Description
Summary:Dapper Labs was at the center of the 2020-2021 NFT (non-fungible token) boom. Dapper Labs, a Canadian company, created CryptoKitties, one of the first popular consumer applications on the Ethereum blockchain and one of the first widely known NFTs. They then followed up CryptoKitties by creating their own blockchain and entering a joint venture with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to create NBA Top Shots, NFT of NBA video highlights based on the Dapper Labs Flow blockchain. Dapper Labs raised money for their projects in part by using the Flow token. However, the company was sued in a class action lawsuit for violating U.S. securities laws when it issued securities in absence of registration. The SEC has challenged other companies on similar grounds and began investigating NFTs for securities law violations in early 2022.
