| Summary: | Bamboo Weaving Enterprise D (a real company whose name has been changed) is a traditional handicraft enterprise, located in southwest of China. It is the largest and oldest privately-owned business of bamboo products in the town where it located. The Enterprise uses the traditional manual bamboo weaving method to produce tourism souvenirs, decorations, and other products, and undertakes a variety of related business activities to meet market demand. However, due to the inability to mass produce the handicrafts, Bamboo Weaving Enterprise D is facing several challenges, including losing its experienced personnel who produce the high-end craft. Other challenges include the fact that the high profit business cannot be expanded and that productivity and innovation of other product businesses are insufficient to sustain company profitability. This case enables students to evaluate the business model of traditional handicraft enterprises, identify and select the core businesses of these enterprises, and formulate a strategic plan for sustainable development within the constraints of internal and external environmental factors. |
