Description
Summary:On January 2, 2023, the Buffalo Bills were playing the Cincinnati Bengals in Ohio when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed of a cardiac arrest on the field just nine minutes into play. Sports broadcasting giant ESPN was televising the game and was contractually obligated to broadcast the tragedy live for more than an hour, leaving viewers and fans upset and uncomfortable with what they thought to be a vulgar move by the network. This case asks students to discuss ESPN's responsibility during the broadcast and how it impacts the brand image of the network, particularly as the surfeit of football-related injuries continues to spark concern among fans and critics.
