Description
Summary:This case is built around the recently published reports surrounding the uncertainty of the future profitability and market positioning of Netflix. While recent reports expect Disney+ to surpass Netflix in terms of the number of subscribers, Netflix contends that it is outperforming its peers by all metrics and remains positive regarding the future. Nonetheless, and after a long stance against an ad-supported model, Netflix decided to adopt the model as a new source of revenue to compensate for its losses in subscriber market share and sustain an upward trend in revenue growth. Students apply the fundamental ratio, common size, and trend analysis to assess Netflix's current and prospective metrics and conclude on the uncertainty surrounding Netflix's revenue growth and market position as a result of the imminent threat of Disney+. The students will make their conclusions based on the metrics and other information, such as market analysis, history and strategy, and peer companies' performance, vital to the analysis. This case demonstrates the importance of contextual information in financial assessments and performance forecasts.
