Description
Summary:Road traffic accidents lead to a significant number of injuries and deaths worldwide every year. The government of Uganda, in partnership with nongovernmental organization Starhealth, invested in and implemented a robust road traffic injury (RTI) response project during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The program used information and communication technology to improve RTI victim evacuation response times. The Starhealth team initiated, planned, executed, and monitored the project, which used an Open Data Kit tool installed on ambulance staff smartphones to collect and analyze precision data and guide program decisions. This case considers how to find new strategies and solutions in the face of global health challenges and rapid technological change. It also identifies and evaluates project management standards and practices for selecting and implementing new technology.
