Summary:Since 1995, commercial poultry production has been growing rapidly in Bangladesh. The poultry industry serves as an additional source of income and employment in rural parts of the country. However, since the outbreak of bird flu in 2007, the viability of many farms is uncertain. This case provides an overview of the industry and its challenges, which include lack of experience in managing farms, management proper feed ratio among birds, common flus and viruses that affect birds, and the need for properly vaccinating birds. Addressing these challenges is crucial for entrepreneurs in this sector for their survival. Students are asked to evaluate some of these challenges.
