Description
Summary:While technology has brought substantial convenience to the travel industry, travellers have become significantly dependent on it. Concepts such as digital detox, which involves taking a voluntary break from technology, have started gaining momentum in tourism. In a bid to promote the digital well-being of its guests, Hotel Bellora has launched the 'Check Out Suite' project. The hotel's strategy involves using a smart technology solution to monitor the technology usage of its guests. The Check Out Suite is equipped with a smart lamp that determines the rate for the night based on the time guests spend on their screens. Digital detox is used here as a form of currency that rewards a healthy digital attitude. The purpose of this project is to encourage visitors to the hotel to unplug and reconnect with the world outside their screens. This case study attempts to explore Hotel Bellora's motives for embracing the disconnect-to-reconnect concept and analyse the strategy the hotel has implemented to encourage its guests to disconnect.
