Description
Summary:This case study aims to explore the activities and use of an efficient warehousing system by Chaldal.com, a pioneer online grocery provider in Bangladesh. The purpose of this study is to showcase the adoption of a micro-fulfillment solution by the largest online grocery provider in a country where people are still accustomed to traditional means of purchasing groceries. The absence of personal touch and face-to-face communication, and general distrust in the delivery process, makes customers reluctant to use online transactions. To solve this issue, Chaldal has devised a micro-fulfillment solution that enables grocery delivery within an hour of placing an order, which will improve the effectiveness of the business. To examine how it has been done, this case reviews its business model and the challenges that Chaldal overcame. Lastly, the case demonstrates how such a process has helped the company gain a large market share and explores what strategies the company may employ in the future. Students will be asked to evaluate current micro-fulfillment processes.Micro-warehousing, micro-fulfilment centres, online grocery market, e-commerce, supply chain management, logistics.
