Summary:	This case focuses on the European Union's recent measures to defend Spanish olive exporters against the US's punitive countervailing duties. The EU believed that olive exports to the US markets were unfairly treated by the US authorities, wreaking havoc on European farmers in terms of loss of market access and revenue. The EU engaged the US in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and managed to get a favourable outcome. The US now accepts WTO's ruling and promises to abide by its obligations according to internationally accepted rules of trade.
